Joseph Hodges Choate (1832–1917) was a well-known lawyer and diplomat, who served as ambassador to Great Britain under President William McKinley and later served as head of the American delegation to the 1907 Hague Conference. The Choate medal was the first in a series issued by the ANS in honor of those who had distinguished themselves in public service, the arts, letters, or other prominent activities. Encased in an oversized 4X6 inch holder.
