Heraldic Art medal struck by Robert McNamara via his Heraldic Art Company of Cleveland, Ohio, who wished to provide a series of high quality commemorative coins for collectors after the Mint stopped its commemorative program in 1954. This specific piece was issued in 1961 to commemorate the statehood of Kansas. Struck in 0.925 fine silver. This is issue number 7 out of a "regular issue" series of 60 pieces which ran from 1959 through 1978 (an addition 7 "special occasion" pieces also were struck during this time period). The obverse features a light orange-gold ring around the periphery and a light ice-blue center; the reverse is virtually untoned.
